ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 12. Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna (Sovereign Wealth Fund) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have discussed the progress of ongoing projects, Trend reports.

Discussions on this topic occurred between Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna, and Hüseyin Özhan, Managing Director for Central Asia at the EBRD.

Specifically, the EBRD, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, is financing the conversion of CHPP-2 in Almaty to natural gas.

Additionally, the EBRD intends to participate in the "Integration of the Western Kazakhstan Energy System with the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan" project. Accordingly, efforts are underway for banking and environmental assessments.

Moreover, as of February 29, 2024, the EBRD's current project portfolio in Kazakhstan amounts to 2.8 billion euros, encompassing 119 active projects.

Overall, the bank has invested approximately 10 billion euros across 317 projects in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan represents the EBRD's largest and longest-standing banking engagement in Central Asia.
