UN Deputy Secretary General to pay official visit to Kyrgyzstan

The Deputy Secretary General (DSG) of the United Nations and the Executive Director of the UN Department for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yuri Fedotov, will pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan on April 25, 2011, as State Service for Drugs Control under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic informs, news agency "24.kg" reported.

The UN high-ranking official will express the readiness of the organization to provide further support to Kyrgyzstan in drug-trafficking and crime prevention spheres.

"Yuri Fedotov will sign a project aimed at promoting newly created State Service on Drugs Control (GSKN). The project provides conducting training courses, as well as the purchase of specialized equipment and provision of other resources that will allow the service to play a leading and coordinating role in countering drug trafficking in Kyrgyzstan," the statement reads.

The UN Deputy Secretary General will discuss with the President of transition period Roza Otunbayeva, Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev, and the Speaker of Parliament Akhmatbek Keldibekov additional technical assistance for the country. "It is assumed that, Yuri Fedotov will meet with President of GSKN Vitali Orozaliev, as well as visit the detention center and forensic laboratory of drug control to get familiar with the conditions of detention and methods of chemical investigations of narcotic substances," the press-service informs.
