UN: Kyrgyzstan should more focus on natural disaster prevention

Kyrgyzstan should be more prepared for natural disasters and pay more attention to their prevention, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said during his meeting with Kyrgyz President Rosa Otunbayeva, CA-News reported on Friday.

He expressed hope the reduction of natural disaster risks will be one of top priorities in the work of Kyrgyz newly elected President Almazbek Atambayev.

Otunbayeva had the conversation with Ban Ki-moon during her meeting with UN Peacebuilding Fund.

The UN Secretary General noted Otunbayeva's achievements in the process of building peace and stability in the country which is important for the whole region.

Otunbayeva thanked the UN system for support and assistance provided to Kyrgyzstan during the crisis.

Ban Ki-moon said the UN Special Representative and Head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia Miroslav Jenca will represent the UN at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President on December 1.
