BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Kyrgyzstan produced more than 20,000 tons of fish in 2022, which is a twofold increase compared to 2021, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

This was stated at the youth forum dedicated to the role of the aquaculture and fishing sector in ensuring food security, which recently took place in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek.

Out of the total volume of fish produced in the country, trout accounted for 74 percent, carp for 9.3 percent, and other types of fish for 16.5 percent.

Meanwhile, even as the fish sector of the country is developing rapidly, the experts identified the lack of feed and professional staff as restraining factors.

According to the former Agriculture Minister Torogul Bekov, the country should expect further growing of fishery production in 2023.

At the same tine, Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russia Rosselkhoznadzor in February this year suspended the certification of fishery products from all enterprises in Kyrgyzstan. Later, in the end of the April, the temporary restrictions for two Kyrgyzstan’s enterprises, namely Aquaprom and Tian-Shan Fish, were lifted.

Aquaculture and culture-based fisheries dominate the national fish production in Kyrgyzstan. The territory of Kyrgyzstan forms about 40 percent of all water resources of Central Asia.
