Kyrgyzstan increases funding for education sector

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 5. The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, as well as educational institutions, are allocated 52 billion soms ($588.2 million) from the national budget in 2023, Trend reports.

The data from the Ministry of Finance of the country indicates that this is an increase of 5.8 billion soms ($65 million) compared to 2022.

As of today, 33.9 billion soms ($384 million) have been distributed for the following purposes:

For salaries and contributions to the social fund, 32.8 billion soms ($371.6 million);

For expenses related to the nutrition of wards and students of educational organizations: 454 million soms ($5.1 million);

For the publication and acquisition of textbooks for general educational schools in Kyrgyzstan, including Braille textbooks, 152 million soms ($1.7 million);

For the current maintenance and repair of educational institutions, 114.1 million soms ($1.2 million);

For scholarships in educational organizations: 70.9 million soms ($803,357);

For the subscription fee for internet connectivity in schools, 14 million soms ($158,631);

For the organization of the Republican School Olympiad and the Republican Mathematics Olympiad, 4.8 million soms ($54,388);

For conducting tests for candidates aiming to receive the certificate with distinction: 1.8 million soms ($20,395);

For the International School Olympiad, 4 million soms ($45,323)

In 2022, the government of Kyrgyzstan allocated 47 billion soms ($532 million) to the education sector.
