BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 17. The construction of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway should become a flagship project within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Mukhtar Beketai, an expert at the Trade Representation of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce in China, said, Trend reports.
He made this statement during a roundtable discussion on trade and economic cooperation among countries along the "Belt and Road," taking place in Xi'an, China.
Highlighting the significance of the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway project, Beketai said that it would be a substantial step towards fully unlocking the region's communication potential. He emphasized that this endeavor would significantly increase trade turnover between the countries.
"Kyrgyzstan holds high potential for the development of renewable energy sources and has proposed that Chinese companies consider their participation in the construction of hydroelectric and solar power stations in the country. Therefore, cooperation in the field of renewable energy could become a pivotal element in promoting the "Green Silk Road" initiative," Mukhtar said.
The expert highlighted that the current circumstances require the effective implementation of joint infrastructure programs to establish new international routes for both road and railway transportation in the region.
The "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway, a planned 454-kilometer railway, is intended to connect China's and Uzbekistan's railways through Kyrgyzstan's territory. Additionally, its objective is to link up with the European railway network through Turkmenistan, Iran, and Türkiye as part of the New Silk Road transportation system.
