UNECE to support digitalization within China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 1. The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will provide assistance for the digitalization of railway systems and the intergovernmental synchronization of railway junction systems under the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" project, Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan, this agreement was reached during a meeting between Deputy Minister Sanjar Bolotov and UNECE Executive Director Dmitry Maryasin.

During the meeting, the sides emphasized the development of transport logistics within the Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) multimodal corridor, as well as the upcoming establishment of the SPECA Fund involving Kyrgyzstan's participation.

Additionally, agreements were reached on developing projects for the extraction of critical mineral resources.

Other topics discussed included cooperation in promoting product lines such as dried apricots, prunes, beans, and bottled water in the EU market; establishing quality control inspections in Kyrgyzstan for key agricultural products (fresh vegetables and fruits) according to EU standards with UNECE support; and enhancing Kyrgyzstan's export of services under the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank (WB) initiatives.

To note, the total length of the future China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad will be 486 kilometers, of which Kyrgyzstan will account for 311.8 kilometers. The approximate cost of the project in Kyrgyzstan is estimated at $4.7 billion. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, earlier stated that the cost of construction of the entire railroad will be about $8 billion.
