Russia, Tajikistan prolong stay of military bases

Moscow and Dushanbe have agreed to prolong the stay of Russian military bases in Tajikistan. The agreement was signed on Friday following negotiations of two presidents, RIA News reported.

According to RF president assistant Yury Ushakov, the prolongation terms are 'practically free of charge'

"This agreement provides favorable conditions of rent: there is no charge for dislocation areas of our military objects, Ushakov noted. We practically receive these bases free of charge, he added.

The agreement was developed to replace the acting agreement, which expires in 2014.

"The previous document was signed on May 25 1993. The new agreement will be valid 30 years- till 2042 with following 5 year prolongations" the president assistant stated.
