The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has completed the Regional Customs Modernisation and Infrastructure Development project in Tajikistan, which was aimed to improve the efficiency and transparency of customs services to develop trade and promote regional customs cooperation, Asia-Plus reports on Tuesday.
A unified automated information system was developed within the project to process customs declarations, introduced by 72 customs offices. Customs officers were also trained how to use it.
Moreover, the priority customs border posts were also built and repaired and cars, x-ray machines and diesel generators were purchased to improve the capacity of customs registration during the project realisation.
ADB delivered a loan worth $ 10.7 million for this project, co-funded by a grant worth $ 1.6 million from the U.S. government and $ 2.68 million contribution from the Tajik government.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998.
