BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 2. Tajikistan plans to plow 605,000 hectares of land this year, Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan said, Trend reports with reference to Tajik media.

Tajikistan plans to grow 1.6 million tons of grain crops, including 975,000 tons of wheat, in 2023. The cotton harvest is expected to reach 430,000 tons this year. The farmers of the country are going to produce more than 3.5 million tons of vegetables and melon crops.

According to the ministry, this year, the area under crops of onions and carrots has been increased. The harvest of onions during the season is expected to be 747,000 tons, and carrots - more than 500,000 tons.

Meanwhile, the annual demand for onions in the country is estimated at 300,000 tons, and carrots - at 250,000 tons.

Earlier, the ministry announced that Tajikistan was going to plant carrots in an area of 4,938 hectares in 2023, of which 1,770 hectares are intended for early sawing.

The Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda said that, Tajikistan would especially focus on growing carrots, along with cotton, potatoes and onions in 2023.

Tajikistan's economy is largely dependent on agriculture, which employs about half of the country's total population. Tajikistan is famous for cultivating cotton, potatoes, grapes, etc.
