Fish production in Tajikistan increases twofold

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. Fish production in Tajikistan increased almost twofold from January through March 2023, compared to 1Q2022, according to the Statistical Agency under President of Tajikistan, Trend reports via Tajik media.

During the reporting period, the total fish catch in the country reached 1,249 tons, including 726 tons in the Khatlon region, 353 tons in the Sughd region, 300,000 kg. in Gorno-Badakhshan region, and 168 tons in the districts under Central Government Jurisdiction.

The overall value of products in Tajikistan amounted to 31.9 million somoni ($2.9 million) in 1Q2023, which is 1.9 more than in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan provides favorable condition for local farmers to facilitate fish production in the country at the moment. For example, one of the measures taken was creation of the Fisheries Development Program.

Some of the factors contributing to the industry's development include the establishment of new fish farms using new technologies, providing favorable benefits to entrepreneurs working in this field, creating enterprises for the production of fish feed and meat processing.
