DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 20. The Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan is planning to improve its forecast-based financing, specifically targeting heatwaves and cold waves, in 2023, Trend reports.
According to the report of the IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross), this initiative will allow the Red Crescent Society to take early and effective actions when abnormal weather conditions pose a high risk to vulnerable groups, such as children, older individuals, and people with disabilities.
The Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan is part of the IFRC Global Climate Resilience Programme, which aims to promote climate-smart disaster risk reduction and adaptation efforts at the local level. The program's mission is to prevent and reduce the impact of climate-related disasters and build resilience within communities.
In 2023, the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan plans to continue its community-based disaster risk mitigation initiatives, supported by the IFRC network. These efforts are aimed at addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of people affected by disasters and crises.
The program's goal is to support 500 million people in 100 of the most climate-vulnerable countries, with special attention to the least supported and marginalized communities.
The International Federation of Red Cross, with its extensive network of 192 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and around 14 million volunteers, remains the world's largest humanitarian network.
