DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 10. Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) plans to support construction of new schools in Tajikistan, Trend reports.
The agreement for the 5 phase of the “Construction and equipment of a number of secondary schools” project was signed by Tajikistan Minister of Finance Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, and CEO of SFD, Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad.
The total project cost amounts to $20 million, fully financed through concessional funding from the SFD. This sum will be allocated for the construction of 19 schools, providing educational opportunities for up to 30,000 students. Implementation of the project is set to commence this year, with an expected completion date in 2028.
Recently, as part of a credit agreement signed back in May 2017 for the phase 4 of this project, a new school with a capacity for 620 students was inaugurated in Shahrinav region. This school is one of 34 secondary schools constructed across various regions of Tajikistan as part of the fourth phase of the project, with a total cost of $35 million.
In total, the SFD has funded the construction of 57 general educational schools with a combined value of $75 million throughout the previous phases of this initiative.
These projects are aimed at enhancing the quality of education by constructing and equipping secondary schools in various regions of Tajikistan.
The SFD commenced its operations in Tajikistan in 2002 and has contributed $193 million to development projects and programs in the fields of healthcare, education, irrigation, transportation, and infrastructure.
