DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 21. The foreign direct investments (FDI) of the Eurasian region's countries into Tajikistan amounted to $680 million in the first half of 2023, Trend reports.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) marks the Eurasian region for the following countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.

According to the EDB, the total volume of direct investment from the regional countries to Tajikistan amounted to $670 million in 2020, it was $650 million in 2018, and reached $770 million in 2016.

Tajikistan itself, however, is not an investor in the regional countries.

Tajikistan mainly attracts foreign direct investments towards the extraction of natural resources. In 2022, it attracted around $430 million foreign direct investments (in total, not only from Eurasian region), with 85 percent directed towards resource extraction, 13 percent towards manufacturing and processing, and 1.7 percent towards construction and other sectors.

One of the significant investment agreements resulting from the Tajik-Russian investment forum in September 2022 was a deal between Tajikistan and Russian BTK Group, aiming to establish a joint Tajik-Russian garment factory in Tajikistan.
