Russian airlines dominate air travel between Tajikistan and Russia

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, February 1. Russian airlines operate 88 percent of the flights between Tajikistan and Russia, while the remaining 12 percent are handled by the Somon Air, the national airline of Tajikistan, Trend reports.

This statement was made by Dilshod Safarzoda, the Director of the Civil Aviation Agency under the government of Tajikistan, during a press conference summarizing the year 2023.

According to Safarzoda, flight routes from Tajikistan cover all regions of Russia. There are one or two flights from Tajikistan to the Central part of Russia, Siberia, and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. At the same time, many flights operate to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg. He highlighted that Russian airlines remain interested in initiating flights to Tajikistan, and there are ongoing proposals under consideration.

In turn, Parviz Shodmonzoda, the General Director of Tajik Air National Air Company, mentioned that with the resumption of operations, which had ceased since 2019 due to financial and technical issues, the number of flights by Tajikistan to Russia airlines would increase.

Currently, Somon Air successfully operates regular flights from Tajikistan to 25 destinations, including cities in Germany, the UAE, Türkiye, China, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
