Tajikistan boosts water supply to Kazakhstan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 27. Tajikistan has supplied Kazakhstan with approximately 500 million cubic meters of water for the irrigation season since June 1, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, said, Trend reports.

The minister noted that this amount is 40 million cubic meters more than last year and 45 million cubic meters above the planned volume for this year.

"Recently, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a state visit to Tajikistan. During the visit, important bilateral talks took place, including discussions on water cooperation. Tajikistan is a key partner for our country, as are all Central Asian states. Therefore, we place great importance on collaborative efforts in water resource management and conservation," Nurzhigitov said.

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, since April 1, Uzbekistan has directed over 4 billion cubic meters of water into the country via the Syr Darya river.

Additionally, at the 33rd meeting of the Chu-Talas Water Management Commission, an agreement was reached for Kyrgyzstan to supply Kazakhstan with 180 million cubic meters of water via the Chu river and 380 million cubic meters via the Talas river.
