Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made new appointments to the district administration in the Balkan velayat area of the country, the Turkmen government said today.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made new appointments to the district administration in the Balkan velayat area of the country, the Turkmen government said today.

Bayramberdi Soeshov was appointed head of Balkanabat town, the regional centre of the Balkan velayat. Earlier, he served as head of the Serdar district, Balkan velayat.

Ovez Meretgeldiev heads up the Serdar district, Balkan province from having been deputy head. Enedzhan Orazberdieva was appointed deputy head in Turkmenbashi and Annaguly Esenov was appointed deputy head in Serdar district, Balkan province.

Balkan province is one of the most strategically placed in the local economy. The headquarters of the state concern Turkmenneft is based there at Balkanabat.

A large oil refinery and port are situated in the city of Turkmenbashi. The Avaza resort is being built along the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea.
