By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend: Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at a meeting of the State Security Council stressed the great contribution of the State Customs employees in developing the foreign economic relations and ensuring the economic security of the country, the Turkmen government said on Friday.

"While speaking about the recent trend of increasing the cargo flow volumes through the customs posts, President Berdimuhamedov instructed to continue examining the goods transported through the country's border thoroughly," the statement said.

According to Ashgabat, active development of North-South and East-West large-scale transport corridors, as well as increasing capacity of Central Asia - Persian Gulf communication network and the development of transportation communication in the Caspian-Black Sea region is a priority of its policy.

These projects include the transport and communication expansion among the countries of Central Asia with further opportunity to reach the markets in Europe, South-East Asia and the Middle East.

In particular, Turkmenistan together with the neighboring countries - Iran and Kazakhstan are actively working on the implementation of the North -South regional rail project.

Marine transportation is important in Turkmenistan's foreign economic relations. The volume of cargo handled at the berths of the Caspian harbor is increased. The industrial and agricultural equipment, metal and wood products, mineral fertilizers are supplied to the country through this harbor. Polypropylene, coke and other oil products, chemical and construction materials are supplied abroad.
