Russia and Turkey became the main buyers of cotton yarn produced at a plant in Koneurgench city (Dashoguz region of Turkmenistan), the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported Dec. 20.

“Strict observance of contractual obligations and high quality of cotton yarn made it possible for the plant to annually export about eighty percent of all products,” the report noted.

The plant annually processes 6,700 tons of cotton fiber and produces 6,000 tons of the open end yarn. German equipment is used in the plant’s workshops.

In Dashoguz region of Turkmenistan, there is also a plant capable of processing 16,600 tons of cotton fiber per year and producing 14,500 tons of ring cotton yarn and the Serdar plant, which uses pneumomechanical spinning technology in its operation.

In November, it was reported that another cotton mill will be built in Saparmyrat Turkmenbasy district of Dasoguz region. After the cotton mill is commissioned, 6,000 tons of cotton yarn will be produced annually.

More than one million tons of cotton is grown annually in Turkmenistan, which is the raw material base for the development of the textile industry. Up to 70 percent of the raw materials are processed in the country.
