Iran to build power transmission line in Turkmenistan’s Mary

Iranian contractors will build a 400 kV power transmission line (PTL) near the Sarakhs border in the city of Mary of Turkmenistan, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry Rashid Meredov said following the results of the 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation held from 26 to 27 October in Tehran, Trend reports citing Business Turkmenistan.

According to Meredov, certain results on various issues were achieved at the meeting with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Ghasemi, who is also the co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission from the Iranian side.

Meredov noted that a new agreement on the construction of a 400 kV power transmission line in Turkmenistan was reached with the aim of exporting electricity to Iran.

In addition, the parties entered into agreements on accelerating the transportation of goods on road and rail sections, including at the borders of Serakhs, Incheburun and Lotfabad, as well as on the provision of a special place in the Shahid Rajai port for Turkmenistan in order to transit Turkmen goods through Iran.

Also, the head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry referred to an agreement on the media sector, in particular, on the opening of an office of the IRNA news agency in Ashgabat and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Radio and Television Organization of Iran and the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting of Turkmenistan.

Meredov stressed that 236 documents have been signed between Turkmenistan and Iran to date, and the meeting added three more new protocols.
