BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. During the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023), 300,000 tons of cargo were transported by rail between Turkmenistan and Iran, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

According to the information, this volume of rail traffic is 57 percent higher than the figures for the same period last year.

Turkmenistan's imports from Iran during this period amounted to 170,000 tons, an increase of almost 10 percent compared to the same period last year. The main goods exported by rail to Turkmenistan are citrus fruits, cement, chemicals, building materials, and food.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan exported 130,000 tons of goods to Iran from March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023.

The prospect of forming a free trade zone in the Caspian region opens up the possibility for Iran to get into a market with a capacity of $600-700 billion.

Meanwhile, in the second half of last year, a border market opened on the border of Turkmenistan and Iran, after 34 months of downtime due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
