BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. Head of the population statistics department of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan Jahan Pigamova is taking part in the 56th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development, which began its work on April 10, 2023 at the UN headquarters in New York, Trend reports with reference to the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.
The agenda of the session, which will last until April 14, includes topical issues related to the effective implementation of the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and its main activities at the national, regional and global levels, further implementation of internationally agreed development goals, including the goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The session provides for high-level general debates, ministerial round tables and other meetings, during which a number of issues on population and development will be considered.
During the general debate, the delegation of Turkmenistan presented the country's national experience and achievements in the field of population, as well as outlined a number of proposals to strengthen multilateral cooperation in this area both at the regional and global level.
In particular, the joint work of the Government of Turkmenistan and the agencies of the UN system on the organization and successful conduct of a continuous census of the population and housing stock of Turkmenistan in December 2022 was noted.
It was noted that the results of the census, of course, will be used in the formation of socio-economic policy of the state, reliable and high-quality statistical information, which is the key to effective solutions in the implementation of transformations in the national economy.
