Australia has thrashed Uzbekistan 6-0 in the semifinal of the 2011 Asian Cup, cruising to the final to face three-time champion Japan, Press TV reported.

Harry Kewell opened the goal festival in the fifth minute at the Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Tuesday.

Defender and Asian player of the year Sasa Ognenovski doubled the lead 30 minutes later.

David Carney, Brett Emerton, Carl Valeri, and Robbie Kruse scored after the break to humiliate 10-man Uzbekistan, which appeared in the semifinal at the Asian Cup for the first time like Australia.

Australia will face Japan in the final on Saturday, chasing its first major international trophy.

The Socceroos are the top-ranked team in Asia and sit 82 places above the Uzbeks in the current FIFA world ranking.

Earlier on Tuesday, Japan defeated archrival South Korea 3-0 in a penalty shootout after the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at the al-Gharafa Stadium.
