Canada, Uzbekistan plan to intensify business contacts

Uzbekistan and Canada intend to intensify business contacts. It was discussed at a meeting with Canadian Ambassador John Sloan at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry on Thursday, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.

Uzbekistan and Canada intend to intensify business contacts. It was discussed at a meeting with Canadian Ambassador John Sloan at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry on Thursday, the country's Foreign Ministry said.

The meeting with the Canadian Ambassador Sloan with residence in Moscow was held within his six-day visit to Uzbekistan.

The parties considered the complex issues of the Uzbek-Canadian relations, including the parties' approaches to the development of relations in the context of fulfilling the agreements reached during the political consultations held last July in Tashkent. Then the sides expressed a mutual interest in deepening trade and economic ties, especially in using Canadian expertise and technologies in Uzbekistan's economy through direct investments of Canadian companies. Implementation of investment projects in energy, engineering, mining, chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as in agriculture was mentioned among the mutually beneficial spheres. Cooperation in construction of new and reconstruction of existing hotels and tourist zones in Uzbekistan, as well as exchange of experience in managerial training and provision of travel services was recognized as promising.

During this meeting, the sides stressed the urgency of development of joint efforts aimed at effective use of economic and investment opportunities of the parties to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Uzbek side stressed the importance of the Canadian side's proposals to arrange exchange of visits by representatives of business circles.

The parties expressed their mutual interest in intensifying contacts in science and technology, health and education, as well as establish ties between higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and Canada.

They also exchanged views on international issues, including its regional aspects.
