The first round of bilateral Uzbek-Turkmen political consultations will be held on August 16 in Ashgabat, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, the first round of political consultations will be held at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

Currently the countries have established regular political dialogue at different levels of interaction, warm and trusting relationship between the leaders of the two states, which are the basis of the progressive and dynamic development of full range of interstate relations.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan were established in January 1993. At present, countries are actively cooperating on a wide range of bilateral cooperation.

They have signed a package of legal documents, which consists of 155 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements. Trade relations are governed by an intergovernmental agreement on the main areas of long-term trade and economic cooperation, signed in January 1996.

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are tied by a number of major projects, in particular, a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was opened in December 2009.

The parties consider also the possibilities of cooperation in the implementation of the railway project that would link Central Asia with the Persian Gulf. Great importance is attached to the joint program of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere in 2011-2013.

Mutual trade turnover is growing at a steady pace: following 2011, it grew 1.7 times to $460 million.

There are four joint ventures with Turkmen capital in Uzbekistan working in construction services and building materials production. There are five companies created with the participation of Uzbek residents in Turkmenistan.
