Campaign for the election of MPs to parliament and local councils, which will take place Dec. 21 in Uzbekistan, has ended Dec.19.

Election campaign stops starting from 00:00 a.m. (UTC/GMT +5 hours) Dec. 20, and all the campaign-related materials placed on buildings, structures and other places should be removed, according to the legislation of Uzbekistan. Campaign is also not allowed on the election day.

The so-called day of silence before the voting day is to help voters decide their political preferences and make a conscious decision for which party and candidate they should give their vote.

As of Dec.20, a total of 535 candidates from parties claim to 135 seats in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (lower house of the Uzbek parliament). Another 15 MPs from the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan will be elected at a conference Dec. 21.
