Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with Turkey’s Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan on April 8, 2021, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.
The parties discussed the current trends on investment cooperation, characterized by dynamic growth in the inflow of Turkish investments into the economy of Uzbekistan, and also noted their mutual commitment to provide systematic support to Turkish entrepreneurs implementing investment projects in Uzbekistan.
In the course of the meeting, priority tasks were identified to accelerate the approval of the draft agreement on preferential trade between Uzbekistan and Turkey, by enhancing the interaction of experts from relevant ministries and structures of the two countries and developing mutually acceptable solutions on existing issues.
The parties stressed the signing of the agreement will give a great impetus to the strengthening of the economic partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides also noted the urgency of establishing practical interaction in the field of e-commerce, regarding which they identified one of the priorities of the bilateral cooperation agenda to sign in the near future a corresponding document, which is currently at the stage of approval.
The officials also touched upon the issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of technical regulation, standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation and metrology by expanding cooperation between the standardization services of the two countries, setting the common goal of eliminating barriers of Uzbek and Turkish manufacturers in the implementation of mutual deliveries of products.
Following the meeting and negotiations, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Accreditation Center under the Uzstandart Agency and the Accreditation Agency of Turkey in the implementation of the Halal standard (type of food that adheres to Islamic law, as defined in the Koran).
