Turkish Aksa Enerji company is participating in implementation of investment projects in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region for the construction and operation of two 470 MW thermal power plants (TPPs), Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.
According to the media, thermal power plants, which will use combined-cycle plants and gas piston units, are being built on 7 hectares of land in the Tashkent region's Kibray district west of the operating Tashkent TPP.
The total cost of the projects is $300 million. They will be fully funded via foreign direct investments. The plants, which are expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of this year, will generate 3.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
The use of the energy-efficient plants will save up to 550 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Under the projects, an Investment Agreement was signed between Aksa Enerji and the Uzbek Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, as well as an agreement on the purchase of electricity - with Uzbekistan’s National Electric Grids JSC.
Aksa Enerji has launched a project for the construction and operation of a thermal power plant in the Bukhara region, where technology based on gas piston units will also be used. Under the project, land surveys are being carried out to start the construction of a new thermal power plant with a capacity of 270 MW.
Currently, the construction of the mentioned TPPs has begun, during which about 900 workers will be involved. After the commissioning of the plants, 220 new jobs will be opened.
