Uzbek ‘Torpedo’ melons were delivered to the US for the first time, Trend reports referring to Embassy of Uzbekistan in the US and Canada.

According to the information, until 2018, Uzbekistan exported melons to no more than 11 countries, excluding export volumes of less than 18 tons. But, in 2019, the number of countries that imported melon from Uzbekistan in the amount of at least 18 tons increased to 14, and in 2020 - to 17.

In the third decade of June, it was reported that the massive export of melons from Uzbekistan has started. At that time, this was evidenced by two factors - a decrease in wholesale prices in the domestic market by 10 times from the end of May to 17 June and a noticeable intensification of shipments of melons to foreign markets.

It is noted that currently, the export of Uzbek melons is in an active phase, which is facilitated by low wholesale prices for this product in the domestic market of Uzbekistan.

According to participants in the logistics services market, melons rank first in the ranking in terms of the number of requests for vehicles for the shipment of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan to foreign markets.

Earlier State Statistics Committee reported that the volume of exports of melons and watermelons from Uzbekistan from January through June 2021 increased by almost 5.3 times, or by 18,500 tons. According to the committee, in the first half of 2021, Uzbekistan exported 22,800 tons of melons and watermelons for a total of $7.4 million.

The committee also reported that the largest volume of Uzbek melons and watermelons export during the reporting period account for Kazakhstan, amounting to 11,800 tons. Almost two times less Uzbek melons and watermelons were imported by Russia – 6,300, followed by Kyrgyzstan – 2,900 tons.

At the same time, Belarus in 6M2021 imported 52 tons of Uzbek melons and watermelons, Ukraine - 484 tons, Germany - 131 tons and Moldova – 59 tons.
