Consortium of Électricité de France (EDF), Nebras Power Q.S.C. (Qatar) and Sojitz Corporation (Japan) will be jointly building a 1,200-1600 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

The mentioned companies won a tender to build the plant in Syrdarya region.

The decision to award the consortium the project was based on its offer of $33.6 per MWh, the lowest cost of electricity compared with competing bids. The Consortium eyes to form a 25-year power purchase agreement with National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build, operate and maintain the CCGT plant.

“With the successful completion of another international tender to strengthen Uzbekistan’s energy sector, we have taken another significant step on the way to increased stability of energy supply. It is also a sign that Uzbekistan is a place where international capital can be employed with safety of investment and great growth prospects," said Energy Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov.

The new CCGT power plant will contribute to decreasing the CO2-intensity of Uzbekistan’s gas usage. The project is part of the “Generation Master plan of the Republic of Uzbekistan” aiming to modernize the country’s outdated energy infrastructure.
