BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 9. Uzbekistan continues to increase the volume of cargo transportation passing through the territory of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan told Trend.

“Currently, we are seeing a gradual increase in cargo transportation along the transit corridor passing through Azerbaijan, the country's cargo carriers are increasing the shipment of goods directly through the Caspian Sea. In this regard, we are planning, together with the transport authorities of the states through whose territory this corridor runs, to create the most favorable conditions,” the ministry reports.

The ministry also noted that the railway organizations of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Turkiye, Turkmenistan have already provided discounts of up to 70 percent for the transportation of container block trains.

In addition, the ministry said that Uzbekistan is actively using the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route and the Alat seaport.

Previously, in June 2022, an intergovernmental agreement on international road transport was signed between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. According to this agreement, the practice of organizing international cargo transportation on the basis of "permit forms" will be introduced, and a Mixed Commission on international transportation will also be created.

According to the ministry, the "permit system" will help create the statistics on movement of goods to prepare an appropriate analysis for the development of transport corridors.
