BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. USAID has allocated $2 million to support farmers and fertilizer producers in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via Uzbek media outlets.

The aim of the assistance is to strengthen the country's capacity to ensure food security in the context of the global food crisis.

This new funding will help protect vulnerable populations from the growing global food crisis and will be used to increase the volume and quality of fertilizers produced in Uzbekistan.

Over the past year, global fertilizer prices have almost doubled, up 200 percent since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. USAID will provide technical support to fertilizer producers in Uzbekistan and co-finance investments in new technologies to increase production, improve quality, and increase domestic and regional market share through fertilizer sales.

USAID is also organizing fertilizer best practice training for 5,000 farmers and agricultural service agents.
