Two new power plants to be put in operation in Uzbekistan backed by ACWA Power

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 19. Two wind power plants with a total capacity of 1 GW are under construction in Uzbekistan's Bukhara region, Trend reports via the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

According to the ministry, the construction of two 500 MW wind farms is underway in the Gijduvon and Peshku districts of Uzbekistan and will be carried out by Saudi ACWA Power company.

The plants will generate 3.6 billion kWh of electricity per year. As a result, the annual saving of natural gas will amount to 1.1 billion cubic meters.

The power plants in Bukhara will be put into operation in 2024.

The ministry emphasized that, over the past 3.5 years, Uzbekistan signed 4 contracts with international companies to build power plants that convert wind energy into electricity, with a total capacity of 1,600 MW and a cost of $1.9 billion.
