TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 6. Uzbekistan, in collaboration with ACWA Power Company, is going to construct two more photovoltaic power stations in the Samarkand region, Trend reports.
In this regard, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed two resolutions regarding the implementation of investment projects. These projects entail the construction of two photovoltaic power stations, each with a capacity of 500 MW, along with energy storage systems of 334 MW capacity and substations to facilitate their operation.
The two solar power stations are named Sazagan Solar 1 and Sazagan Solar 2, with project investments of $758 million and $1.04 billion, respectively. The resolutions stipulate that the National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan have undertaken a guaranteed purchase of the electricity generated by these solar power stations for a period of 25 years.
The resolutions also grant permission to the National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan to collaborate with project companies, established by the investor in the form of limited liability companies, for the implementation of Sazagan Solar 1 and Sazagan Solar 2 projects. This collaboration includes selecting international engineering companies and other consultants for the projects without the requirement of mandatory expertise, as defined in the Agreements on Power Purchase dated April 19, 2023.
Furthermore, the project companies are authorized to open foreign bank accounts abroad for obtaining loans, receiving and utilizing foreign currency, and making direct payments to foreign contractors, suppliers, or creditors outside Uzbekistan, without the need to channel such payments through domestic bank accounts.
