TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 22. Over one ton of precious metals have been sold on the Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UZEX) since the beginning of 2023, which is 4 times more than in the same period last year, Trend reports.
Total volume of revenues from the sales amounted to 613.9 billion Uzbek soums ($50.2 million). The amount of gold sales through the exchange reached 611.9 billion soums ($50.1 million), while the volumes of sales for amounted to 2 billion soums ($163,800).
The exchange quotation of gold on the Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange increased by 9 percent from January through September 2023, amounting to 744,000 soums per 1 gram of gold ($60.93).
Earlier this month, gold prices in Uzbekistan rose by more than 1 percent and reached the record set in May 2023. The price for one ingot of 5 grams amounts to 3.9 million Uzbek soums ($320) as of September 18, while the cost of one gram is fixed at 790,940 soums ($65).
Since the beginning of the year, the prices for the precious metal have fluctuated and updated the quotation record several times: the price for the smallest ingot crossed the mark of 3.8 million soums ($312) for the first time in March and approached 3.9 million soums ($320) in early May.
The Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange started selling precious metals through stock trading in March 2019.
