TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 3. Uzbekistan aims to complete modernization of the Gishtkuprik customs post on the border with Kazakhstan by March 2024, Trend reports.
As per data by Customs Department of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region, up to 35,000 citizens and more than 1,000 vehicles pass through the border customs post per day. The flow of citizens and transport increases from year to year, so the post required modernization to meet the demand.
The new post will provide with a modern complex with a new terminal, access roads, parking lots, and a canteen, as well as a medical center, trade and consumer services facilities. After modernization, its daily capacity is planned to increase up to 1,000 units of vehicles and up to 50,000 people.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the International Road Transport Union (TIR) has inaugurated new cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and China, traveling through Kazakhstan.
As per data from TIR, the new cargo route will allow for a fast, economical, and safe solution for cargo transportation. The newly launched route is said to deliver goods in a 10-day period, while rail transportation usually takes up to three months.
