TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 9. Central Bank of Uzbekistan purchased 9 tons of gold in August 2023, Trend reports.

As per data provided by World Gold Council, Uzbekistan ranked 4th in the top gold buyers in the world, surpassed by China (29 tons), Poland (18 tons) and Türkiye (15 tons).

Meanwhile, the data by Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Agency shows that, Uzbekistan halted its gold exports in August 2023. Uzbekistan has shipped out gold valued at $5.63 billion during the first 8 months of 2023, nearly double the amount exported during the same period in 2022.

In September 2023, gold prices in Uzbekistan rose by more than 1 percent and reached the record set in May 2023. The price for one ingot of 5 grams amounts to 3.9 million Uzbek soums ($320) as of September 18, while the cost of one gram is fixed at 790,940 soums ($65).

Since the beginning of the year, the prices for the precious metal have fluctuated and updated the quotation record several times: the price for the smallest ingot crossed the mark of 3.8 million soums ($312) for the first time in March and approached 3.9 million soums ($320) in early May.
