TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 17. Uzbekistan's Tashkent and Russia's Moscow have inked a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of tourism, Trend reports.
The document was signed between the chairman of the Moscow Tourism Committee Evgeny Kozlov and the deputy governor of the Tashkent region for tourism, cultural heritage, and mass communications Fahriddin Davrukov.
As per data provided by the Tashkent city administration, the signed memorandum presupposes the following:
increase in the number of tourists in both directions to 1 million people
organization of tourist and cultural festivals
media coverage of national tourist routes and destinations
Meanwhile, as per data by Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency, 345,000 Russian tourists visited Uzbekistan from January through June 2023, which is 11.1 percent of the whole tourist influx (3.1 million).
In 2022, the number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan will have almost tripled compared to the previous year, increasing from 1.8 million to 5.2 million people. Russia’s share of this number amounts to 10.9 percent (567,700 people).
