TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 16. Uzbekistan Railways JSC and the administration of Tajikistan Railways reach an agreement on further cooperation and joint projects in the field of railway transportation, Trend reports.
This was discussed at a meeting between Uzbekistan Railways' first deputy chairman of the board Hikmatulla Rakhmetov and head of Tajikistan Railway Company Komil Mirzoali on January 10.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides expressed their willingness to cooperate and develop the railroad infrastructure in the region.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the tariff policy between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The two sides noted their desire to develop a flexible tariff system that will facilitate trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
They also raised the need to increase trade turnover between the two countries. The sides expressed their interest in strengthening railroad ties and improving logistics infrastructure to ensure more efficient delivery of goods and development of foreign trade relations.
As a result of the meeting, both sides expressed hope for successful development of the partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
Meanwhile, the data of Tajikistan's statistical agency shows that the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan totaled about $267 million from January through July 2023, which is 15.3 percent less year-on-year.
