TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, February 21. Uzbekistan Railways (Uztemiryulcontaine) JSC and a large German logistics company Rhenus SE&Co. KG will create a modern multimodal transport and logistics center in Andijan region, Trend reports.
According to Uzbekistan Railways, during the visit of Uzbekistan's president to Germany in September 2023, an agreement was reached between Uzbekistan Railways and Rhenus SE&Co. KG on construction of a modern multimodal logistics center.
According to this agreement, between Uztemiryulcontainer JSC and Rhenus SE&Co. KG will be established UzContargo Andijan joint venture on the basis of Andijan logistics center.
The modern logistics center will create opportunities for multimodal transportation, container loading and unloading zones, open and closed customs warehouses, as well as handling heavy cargo.
Investments in the project will amount to 20 million euros between 2024 and 2026, which will allow the logistics center to handle from 250,000 to 300,000 tons of cargo annually.
The official opening ceremony of the UzContargo Andijan joint venture is scheduled for the end of March 2024.
Earlier in October last year, Uzbekistan and Germany signed a memorandum on the prospects of cooperation and an investment agreement worth $40 million.
The documents provide for the participation of the German company in the modernization of the infrastructure of logistics centers at Uztemiryulcontainer JSC, the creation of new terminals in Andijan and Samarkand, as well as issues of increasing the flow of transit cargo and the development of new transport corridors.
