TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 11. The EU appointed Toivo Klaar as a new ambassador to Uzbekistan on 9 September 2024, the EU press service told Trend.
Toivo Klaar began his tenure as the head of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, after serving as EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia since 2017.
To note, the cooperation between the EU and Uzbekistan has grown significantly in recent years, focusing on economic cooperation, human rights, and democratic reforms. The EU is one of Uzbekistan's major trading partners and is involved in various development projects, especially in areas such as energy, education, and governance reform.
In 2022, the EU and Uzbekistan upgraded their relationship through the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA), aiming to deepen ties in trade, investment, and political cooperation.
