Tehran, Manama ties are flourishing: ambassador

After years of detrimental relations between Iran and Bahrain, in the past two years ties have ameliorated, said Iran's ambassador to Bahrain.

In an interview with Mehr News Agency , Hossein Amir Abdolahian stated that the final stages of negotiations  between Iran and Bahrain  regarding Manama's investment in the Iranian port of Assaluyeh and the importation of gas from Iran will be closed by the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

"Currently the joint economic committee of Iran and Bahrain which was in a 'committee' level back in 2005 has advanced to 'high commission' level with eight sub-committees and specialized workgroups developing and implementing economic, political and security issues of the two countries," Abdolahian said.

Abdolahian asserted that numerous visits of the two countries political figures is a sign of the dynamism of relations, noting, "In the current year, we will witness increased visits of higher ranking officials of the two countries.

Asked on present relations with Persian Gulf states and Saudi Arabia he highlighted that expanding ties with our neighboring countries, especially Arab states, is a priority of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

He pointed out that through prudent measures of the diplomatic body of the country relations with neighboring countries are expanding.

Iran's ambassador stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran views the Persian Gulf littoral states separately with an overall interactive strategy, adding, "We wish to strengthen and increase our relations with each and every Arab country in the Persian Gulf and I believe that in recent years our policies have been most successful in countries such as Qatar and Oman."
