For the first time in Iran and throughout the world 600 tons of various types of drugs will be destroyed during the "Week of the Iranian police", Head of the Iranian Drug Enforcement Department, Hamidriza Huseynabadi, said, the Iranian Fars news agency reported.
Half the confiscated 600 tons of narcotics were seized in the provinces. Some 306 tons of drugs was confiscated in the first half of 2009 and currently Iran stores 1,000 tons of drugs in the country's warehouses, Huseynabadi added.
Every year Iran marks the 13th day of the Mehr month (5 October) as the Police Day.
