Iranian journalist arrested in Italy
An Iranian state television journalist was arrested in Rome, the Asriran news agency reported.
The Iranian channel referred to Hamid Masuminedjad as a freelance journalist last night.
A representative of an Iranian airline in Rome, Masuminedjad was arrested after preparing case materials against racism.
According to several Iranian news agencies, Masuminedjad was arrested together with several other individuals a day earlier.
Operation Sniper, which was led from the northern city of Milan, aimed to arrest suspected members of the Iranian secret services.
Italians and other foreigners were reported to have been illegally exporting weapons to Iran, which is under an international arms embargo.
The police had nine arrest warrants, although it is unclear how many people were actually arrested.
