This morning an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Tabas city of the Iranian Province of Yazd, Iranian IRNA news agency reports.

The quake took place at 03:17 local time. No casualities have been reported.

Earthquakes often take place in Iran. The most powerful earthquake occurred in December 2003 in the city of Bam, located in the south-east province of Kirman. The earthquake claimed the lives of 31,000 people. The ancient fortress, built of clay, was destroyed.
