Cleric says U.S. will take dream of negotiation with Iran to grave

Tehran Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami has said that the United States' dream to hold talks with Iran will never come true if it does not shift its hostile policies toward Iran, MNA reported.

"The U.S. should know that it will take the dream of holding negotiations with Iran to grave if the U.S. retains its hegemonistic nature and continues to hatch plots against Iran," Khatami said in an address to a crowd of worshipers in Tehran on Friday.

He also emphasized that in the current situation the enemies are seeking to carry out two plans in order to undermine the Islamic system: first, trying to undermine the status of the religion in Iran; and second, trying to reduce the loyalty of the nation to the Islamic system.

Khatami, who is a member of the Assembly of Experts, also commented on the Supreme Leader's recent visit to Qom and the warm welcome that people and the clerics gave him, and said this visit was significant because it refuted the enemies' claim that the a rift has opened up between the Leadership and the Qom-based clerics following the political unrests broke out after the June 2009 presidential election.
