At present, the number of peoples sentenced to death on charges of buying and selling, as well as using drugs, hits 300, Iranian Mehr news agency quotes Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari Dovlatabadi, as saying.
Dovlatabadi stressed the importance of strengthening the fight against persons engaged in drugs sale and purchase.
He expressed concern over the fact that the number of drug addicts has increased in parks and public places. He also said that they can easily buy drugs at low cost. Dovlatabadi stressed the importance of strengthening the fight against drug addicts.
According to media outlets, 154 people have been executed in Iran since early 2011. Over 90 people accused of drug smuggling and rape have been executed.
The UN and Amnesty International have repeatedly demanded from Iran to stop executions. Human rights activists state that the number of executions in Iran is more than the official statistics.
