Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a reliable and strategic partner for Ukraine in the region, IRNA reported.
Salehi made the remark in a meeting with visiting Vice Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of the Republic of Ukraine Nicolay Tomenko on Sunday.
Pointing to the strategic role of Iran in the Middle East, Salehi expressed dissatisfaction with the current economic and trade cooperation between the two countries given their present potentials.
He also expressed hope that mutual ties would expand in various fields such as trade, industry, science, modern technology and aerospace.
For his part, Tomenko said that Ukraine which is familiar to the culture and history of Iran, is willing to develop political and tourism ties with Iran.
He suggested that the next meeting of joint economic commission be held this year to boosting bilateral economical cooperation.
