Bahrain accuses Iran of backing arrested "terror" group

Bahraini authorities said Sunday a suspected terror group, that allegedly planned to attack key installations in the small Gulf kingdom, has links with Iran, dpa reported.

One member of the group had already travelled to Iran where he had military training and received funds for the group, a spokesman for Bahrain's Public Prosecution said.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry said Saturday that the five-men group had planned to attack a causeway linking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and the Saudi embassy in Manama.

"In this regard, the group coordinated with foreign military bodies including the Revolutionary Guards in Iran to train its elements in the use of firearms and explosives," added the Bahraini official.

The five suspects - all Bahrainis- were ordered Sunday jailed for 60 days for questioning.

Bahrain had previously accused Iran of inciting pro-democracy protests that gripped the country earlier in the year.
