Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has announced Tehran's support for reforms implemented by Damascus aimed at resolving the ongoing unrest in Syria, Press TV reported.

In a message to Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem, Salehi also denounced any foreign interference in Syria's crisis.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian delivered Salehi's message to al-Moualem in a meeting in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Wednesday.

Amir-Abdollahian said Iran categorically supports the Syrian government against internal and foreign pressures.

Al-Moualem, for his part, expressed gratitude for Iran's efforts to find a peaceful solution to Syria's crisis.

Amir-Abdollahian, who arrived in Damascus on Teusday for a two-day visit, also held talks with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad and Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnos.

Syria has been experiencing unrest and ongoing protests since mid-March 2011. Hundreds of people, including Syrian security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing the protesters. Damascus, however, blames "outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups" for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
